Proof Trade Dollars
1880 T$1 PR64 Cameo PCGS. This Choice Cameo proof has exquisite, untoned silver surfaces with excellent contrast between the mirrored fields and the lustrous devices. Slight peripheral weakness is evident at the right side of the obverse. Close examination shows that the bottoms of 420 GRAINS, 900 FINE are minutely doubled, with additional doubling inside the tops of TRADE DOLLAR. We are unaware of similar doubling described for 1880 proof Trade dollars, although similar reverse doubling has been reported for 1881 and 1882 proof Trade dollars. Here is an important coin for further research.
