Proof Washington Quarters
1952 25C Superbird, Hand Engraved Tail Feathers, FS-902, PR69 NGC. Cherrypickers' states that FS-902 is "far scarcer than the earlier die states [i.e. FS-901] with only the 'Superbird' feature." The 'Superbird' variety is named after the delicate S-shaped die scratch at the center of the eagle's breast, reminiscent of comic book hero Superman. FS-902 is a late die state with die lines intentionally added (by a mint worker on the working proof reverse die) to strengthen definition of the wings and tail. As of (11/16), the sole example of the Superbird variety graded PR69 by either leading service.
