1879 $1 MS66+ PCGS. This common Philadelphia issue becomes elusive in Premium Gem condition, and finer coins are genuine rarities. The current Plus-graded example offers a balances between quality and affordability. Frosty mint luster is cast in shades of champagne-gray, sea-green, and amber-orange toning, while the underlying surfaces are beautifully preserved. Minor strike weakness is seen on the eagle's breast and the hair above Liberty's ear, as usual. PCGS and NGC each record five finer representatives (10/16).
