1880 $1 MS66+ PCGS. This brilliant, high-end Premium Gem exhibits sharply detailed design elements and well-preserved surfaces with vibrant mint luster on both sides. The sole mark of note is a short reeding mark near the ear. The 1880 Philadelphia issue saw a mintage exceeding 12 million pieces, many of which were not distributed until the middle of the next century. Despite the huge mintage and large Treasury releases, MS66 specimens are scarce and neither grading service has certified any coins at the MS67 level or above. Population: 15 in 66+, 0 finer (11/16).
