Morgan Dollars
1895-O $1 MS60 NGC. This is an issue that was never widely represented in any government dispersals of silver dollars. Many of the 450,000 coins originally produced are believed to have been either placed into circulation at the end of the 19th century or melted under the auspices of the Pittman Act. As a result, the average collector today can only really hope to acquire a circulated example, and even those pieces are scarce. The advanced specialist, however, would be wise to take full advantage of the opportunity that the present lot offers. This is an uncommonly well-struck survivor of this often poorly impressed issue. The eagle's breast feathers are better-than-average, and there is slight definition on the hair curls over Liberty's ear. The minimally patinated, golden-gray surfaces are extensively abraded for the MS60 grade level.
Ex: Santa Clara Signature (Heritage, 11/2002), lot 6698.
