Morgan Dollars
1896-S $1 MS64+ PCGS. With a reported mintage of 5 million pieces, the 1896-S Morgan dollar is surprisingly difficult to locate, especially in high grade. The elusive nature of the 1896-S suggests that most of the large mintage was later melted, perhaps under the provisions of the Pittman Act in 1918. This attractive Choice example exhibits well-detailed design elements and lightly marked, lustrous surfaces. PCGS has graded 83 finer examples (11/16).
