1901-S $1 MS65+ PCGS. Remarkably few high-grade Uncirculated coins remain from a mintage of nearly 2.3 million pieces, and although the 1901-S is only conditionally rare at the MS66 level and finer, this MS65+ coin qualifies as an optimal grade for a Gem or finer set. Silver luster dominates the slightly reflective fields and frosty devices. The strike is sharp everywhere but the eagle's breast, a legacy of the new C-4 hub. Just four Plus-graded coins are listed by PCGS at the MS65 level, plus one more at NGC. PCGS population: 4 in 65+, 40 finer (11/16).
