Proof Morgan Dollars
1904 $1 PR64+ PCGS. Other than the Chapman proofs of 1921 and the so-called Zerbe proofs of the same date, the 1904 is the finest regular issue in the proof Morgan dollar series. This date is generally available overall, but coins grading finer than the current Choice example are elusive. Moreover, no Cameos are reported by PCGS, eliminating that option for Registry Set collectors. This Plus-designated coin displays a beautiful sharp strike and deeply mirrored fields with traces of light golden toning on each side. A hint of field-device contrast is present on both sides but is not enough to warrant a Cameo notation on the holder.
