Sacagawea Dollars
2000-P SAC$1 Cheerios, FS-902, MS68 NGC. In early 2000, as part of a U.S. Mint promotion for the newly introduced Sacagawea dollar, 5,500 examples were placed in random boxes of Cheerios cereal. Many were spent by their fortunate finders. Five years later, numismatists finally realized that the Cheerios dollars differ from the regular issue: they have ribbed tailfeathers. Surprisingly few have surfaced over the past decade. A semiprooflike and pristine honey-gold example. A 2000 cent, MS66 Red NGC, is housed in the same large-format holder, presumably originally from the same cereal box. Census: 12 in 68, 2 in 68 Prooflike, 0 finer (11/16).
