Half Cents
1802/0 1/2 C Reverse of 1800, C-1, B-1, R.6 -- Environmental Damage -- PCGS Genuine. VG Details. This extremely rare variety features a previously unused 1800-dated obverse die that was overdated by punching a 2 over the final 0, and reuses the reverse die of 1800 with a line of die rust from the E in UNITED to the wreath. The minor surface corrosion obscures the die state details. In the Half Cent Die State Book, Ron Manley writes that the 1802 C-1 half cents were struck between early and late die states of the C-2 variety that reuses the overdated obverse die with a new reverse. Despite the slightly impaired surfaces, this lovely piece has pleasing chestnut-brown color and will make a nice addition to a specialized collection. Our EAC grade Good 4.
