Large Cents
1793 1C Liberty Cap, S-13, B-20, Low R.4, VF20 PCGS. The Liberty Cap is rarest among the three major types of first-year cents. This is a charming medium brown example with generally pleasing surfaces that lack the granularity associated with circulated early copper. We note only a small spot on the outer curls below the cap, and moderate rim dings at 9:30 on the obverse and at 1:30 and 6:30 on the reverse. Evenly defined aside from slight fading on ONE CENT, caused by a sinking reverse die. The obverse is slightly misaligned toward 10 o'clock, and the reverse is moderately misaligned toward 9:30, although no design elements are affected except for the left-side obverse dentils. Our EAC grade Fine 12.
