Indian Cents
1909-S 1C MS66 Red PCGS. The San Francisco Mint transitioned from the Indian cent to the Lincoln cent in 1909, as did the Philadelphia Mint. With a production of only 309,000 coins, the 1909-S Indian cent had the lowest mintage of any cent coined that year, well below the 484,000 coin mintage of the famous 1909-S VDB Lincoln cent. This Premium Gem shows the usual weakness at the feather tips, but exhibits a sharp shield at the top of the reverse. The softly frosted surfaces exhibit brilliant light orange mint luster and a complete absence of unsightly spots. Population: 25 in 66 (3 in 66+) Red, 1 finer (11/16).
