Early Half Dimes
1794 H10C V-1, LM-1, R.6, AU53 NGC. CAC. The leaf tip is centered over the U, and the R in LIBERTY is mostly over the top hair curl. LM-1 is the rarest of four die pairs employed to strike 1794 half dimes. All varieties are apt to generate strong interest though, as collectors are always in search of coins that carry the famous date. Those who specialize by die variety will be all the more excited by this offering. Only 25 or so Valentine-1 representatives are believed extant.
Marvelous multicolor toning covers each side. Rings of blue and green near the central obverse merge with rose, gold, and purple hues peripherally. The reverse exhibits blended shades of the same. Well-centered and evenly struck. Evidence is circulation is minimal, as are distracting impairments.
Census (all varieties): 5 in 53, 78 finer. CAC: 2 in 53, 22 finer (10/16).
