Early Half Dimes
1797 H10C 13 Stars, V-1, LM-4, R.5, AU53 PCGS. Struck after the 15 Stars and 16 Stars varieties, the 1797 13 Stars half dime is an elusive variety that is rarely found in a high state of preservation. PCGS has certified 31 of these in all grades, including just eight pieces that are finer than XF. This late die state piece has heavy clash marks in the obverse fields, but shows no die cracks or signs of lapping. A well-centered impression, this lovely example has sharp design definition and delicate steel-gray toning with slightly reflective fields. Population: 2 in 53, 4 finer (11/16).
