Bust Quarters
1815 25C B-1, R.1, MS65 NGC. An entirely plausible explanation to date for the E and L quarters remains elusive, although several well-researched and carefully thought-out theories have been proposed. We find the Planters Bank connection to the issuance of quarters in 1815 as the most intriguing scenario to date, although more questions than answers remain. The coins are generally found in high grades, indicating short-term usage, although even that observation has its exceptions. The counterstamp crosses many areas of collector interest, and depending on when (or if) a solution to the mystery occurs, a fine example seems like a wise investment for multiple numismatic reasons.
The present coin is a remarkable Gem bathed in mostly concentric shades of apricot-gold, steel-violet, and turquoise. Although richly toned, abundant mint luster shines forcefully through the coloration. The design elements are well, though not fully defined, in all areas. The counterstamp is sharp and in its proper position above the cap. A fascinating, high quality Capped Bust quarter, among the finest available of the anomaly.
