Bust Quarters
1833 25C B-1, R.2, MS65 PCGS. A period after 50 C on the reverse identifies this plentiful die variety, although the 1833 quarter overall is a major condition rarity at the Gem level. Mint State examples in all grades are scarcer than those of many other dates from the 1830s, but in MS65 or finer grades, PCGS and NGC report a combined population of only eight coins, including the possibility of resubmissions (11/16). The present PCGS Gem displays sharp central detail but has weakness on several left-hand stars. Areas of heavy die rust appear on each side, as is typical of the variety. Lustrous surfaces are nearly brilliant in the centers, ceding to champagne and sea-green around the borders. Population: 2 in 65, 2 finer (11/16).
