Seated Quarters
1855-O 25C Arrows MS64 PCGS. The 1855-O is the scarcest No Motto, With Arrows issue in the Seated Liberty quarter series, excluding of course the 1854-O Huge O variety. The '55-O is rare in any Mint State grade. The sole finest is an MS67 NGC coin, pedigreed to Stickney, Clapp, Eliasberg, and Gardner; the second finest are five MS64s (two at NGC and three at PCGS), although this figure may contain resubmissions (11/16). In more than two decades, we have only handled a single previous example in MS64, a PCGS coin that appeared in lot 6493 of our November 2004 Palm Beach Signature sale, where it realized $30,475. The present example should appeal to a range collectors. The strike is sharp, and each side displays original luster with subtle reflectivity in the fields. Warm rose-gold toning embraces each side, partially masking a few minor ticks in the fields that determine the grade. Population: 3 in 64, 0 finer (11/16).
