Seated Quarters
1871-CC 25C VF35 PCGS Secure. Briggs 1-A, Flynn-RPD-001. A single die pair was used to strike a token quantity of 10,890 quarter dollars at the Carson City Mint in 1871. Small silver coinage at the Nevada branch mint was limited until the mid-1870s, and those pieces that were struck became workhorses of Western commerce. As happened in the San Francisco area a couple of decades earlier, circulating coinage in the mining country of the Nevada Territory was severely worn and abused, leaving high-grade survivors extremely rare. The 1871-CC quarter dollar is rare in all grades, and most pieces reside below the VF level. This Choice VF coin is high-end for the issue, showing sharp detail and pleasing pewter-gray patina. The surfaces are smooth, and there are no distractions. Population: 3 in 35, 7 finer (11/16).
