Proof Seated Quarters
1865 25C PR67 Cameo PCGS. Briggs 3-B. Only 500 proof Seated Liberty quarters were struck at the Philadelphia Mint in 1865, the final year of the No Motto design. The proof die is recognized by some evidence of die rust on the obverse and the recut letters in QUAR. DOL. on the reverse. This issue is seldom seen with cameo contrast.
The present coin is a magnificent Superb Gem, with razor-sharp definition on all design elements, including the star centers and eagle's claws. The devices have a rich coat of mint frost that creates an intense cameo effect with the deeply mirrored fields. The brilliant-white surfaces are impeccably preserved and the eye appeal is terrific. Population: 1 in 67 Cameo, 1 finer (10/16).
