Washington Quarters
1945 25C MS68 PCGS. For general collecting purposes, the 1945 Washington quarter is plentiful in attractive Mint State grades, but for Registry Set assemblers and those who simply desire only the best available, the choices are incredibly fewer. Superb Gems are scarce, and the top grade -- MS68 -- has been achieved by only six pieces at PCGS and NGC combined, with none finer. One of the two PCGS coins is housed in the current highest-rated Registry Set; the other, a plate coin for the CoinFacts webpage, is offered here.
Vivid rainbow-like patination hugs the right and lower obverse margin while the remaining surfaces display occasional whispers of nearly imperceptible ice-blue and violet colors. Both sides are awash with stunning luster and exhibit well-struck design features. This is a remarkably well-preserved representative that will appeal on grounds of beauty and rarity even to collectors not normally in pursuit of the Washington quarter series. Population: 2 in 68, 0 finer (11/16).
