Bust Half Dollars
1819/8 50C Large 9, O-102, R.2, MS64 PCGS. CAC. A gap in the dentils beneath "0" in 50 C combine with defective right-hand bases on the Ts in the reverse legend to confirm the O-102 reverse. The obverse displays a large, broad 9 to completely obscure the underdigit 8 except for a "bar" that closes the loop of the 9 -- a remnant of the underneath 8. Large stars sit close to the edge, with the outer points drawn to the milling.
Vibrant album toning is consistent on both sides, with cobalt-blue at the borders and amber-gold centers. Cartwheel mint luster flashes across the frosty surfaces. The obverse is well-struck, while the reverse shows minor blending at the talons, but is sharp in all other regards. A pair of MS66 coins sit atop the Condition Census, followed by three or four MS65 coins. The present CAC-endorsed coin ranks close behind. Population (all Large 9 overdate varieties): 10 in 64 (1 in 64+), 8 finer. CAC: 3 in 64, 3 finer (11/16).
