Bust Half Dollars
1825 50C O-114, R.1, MS66 PCGS. Ice-blue and green toning encompasses the peripheries, progressing to light violet and amber interiors with boldly rendered devices. Extremely attractive, the frosty and colorful surfaces display full mint luster and virtually mark-free fields and devices. The motifs are sharply struck throughout both sides.
This Premium Gem not only ranks at the top of its variety, it is within the top 2% of all Capped Bust halves regardless of date. Overton-114 is an available variety through most grade levels, but this is the sole MS66 example of the die pair. The Overton-Parsley Condition Census shows two Gems in the top spot, following by three MS64 examples. Steven Herrman ranks this piece among the finest O-114 halves to surface in the past 25 years, and it will soon move to the top of his listing on behalf of the successful bidder for the current offering.
