Proof Bust Half Dollars
1832 50C PR65 NGC. O-106, R.8 as a proof. Only nine proof 1832 Capped Bust half dollars have been confirmed, split among three different die varieties (see roster below). This coin represents the O-106 variety, with recutting on star 1 and a small B-shaped defect in the lowest part of the shield border. Only two proof examples of the O-106 are known to present-day numismatists, this coin and the Garrett specimen, which was not certified at the time of its last appearance, but may be the second PR63 example in the NGC Census today. Heritage Auctions is privileged to offer this finest-certified proof O-106 Capped Bust half dollar in only its second auction appearance.
The present coin is a delightful Gem, with sharply detailed design elements that show full radials on all stars and fine definition on Liberty's curls. The relief is relatively high and a light coat of mint frost is evident on the devices. The well-preserved surfaces include deeply reflective fields, under an attractive mix of pale gold, lavender-gray, and cerulean-blue toning. Eye appeal is truly spectacular. Census (all proof varieties): 1 in 65, 1 finer (11/16).
