Proof Seated Half Dollars
1849 50C PR64 PCGS. WB-101. Ex: Eliasberg. Splashes of ice-blue and russet toning occur around the rims and in the fields, while rose and golden-gray patina dominates the surfaces. As expected, the devices are fully struck, contrasting markedly against the glassy mirrors. The CAC endorsement attests to this proof's originality and eye appeal. The Eliasberg catalog noted that the 1849 proof halves "are among the greatest half dollar rarities of the decade, even more elusive than the 1848 ... ." Wiley and Bugert (1993) accurately estimated "at least five are known."
