1889 50C PR67 PCGS. CAC. WB-101. Only 711 proof Seated Liberty half dollars were struck in 1889, to accompany a small business-strike production of 12,000 pieces. Accordingly, the 1889 half dollar is an elusive issue in both formats, perhaps a sign that the Seated Liberty series was near the end of its run. Few survivors can match the technical quality and eye appeal of this spectacular Superb Gem. The design elements exhibit razor-sharp definition throughout and the fields are deeply reflective, under medium shades of lavender-gray toning. The surfaces are impeccably preserved and overall visual appeal is terrific. Population: 4 in 67 (1 in 67+), 0 finer. CAC: 3 in 67, 0 finer (11/16).
