Gobrecht Dollars
1836 P$1 Name on Base, Judd-60 Original, Coin Alignment, Pollock-65, R.1, PR55 PCGS. Silver. Plain Edge. Die Alignment I (center of Liberty's head is opposite the D in DOLLAR). Die State F, which is characterized by a rim nick above the R in DOLLAR and a diagonal die scratch through the O in ONE. The die scratch below the D in DOLLAR that is usually associated with this state is not apparent here, most likely because of the toning in that area. The Mint's account books show that Judd-60 dollars were struck in the last week of December 1836. Those with the diagonal die clash above the eagle's wing (seen here) were minted the final part of that week. The fields are moderately reflective, as with all 1836 dollars, and each side displays speckled rose and blue toning, with the colors are several shades deeper on the reverse. Only the smallest contact marks can be found with magnification.
