Proof Seated Dollars
1864 $1 PR65 PCGS Secure. CAC. OC-P4. Osburn-Cushing Die State a/a. Vertical shield line 3 of stripe 1 extends to horizontal line 5. One of four die pairs used to strike proofs in 1864. The reported mintage is 470 pieces, a number that implies all of the proof dollars were included in original silver proof sets. Splendid multicolor toning graces both sides of this stunning Gem proof. Vivid shades of cerulean-blue, fire-orange, violet, and Midas-gold abound, which tend to capture the eye at the expense of the equally impressive mirrored fields and frosty, razor-sharp devices. If ever there was a coin that was carefully preserved while acquiring the rich and natural toning from a long-held, original set, this is it. CAC-endorsed, now in PCGS Secure holder. Population: 18 in 65 (1 in 65+), 4 finer. CAC: 4 in 65, 4 finer (11/16).
From The Dale Friend Collection of 1864 Proof Coinage.
