GSA Dollars
1879-CC $1 GSA MS64+ PCGS. VAM-5. The date is lightly repunched, and the U in UNITED is die doubled, but perhaps the most interesting feature of VAM-5 is the die line down from the nose, near the upper lip. A well-struck near-Gem with strong mint luster and only a hint of tan-gold toning. The fields are essentially immaculate, as is the eagle, and the grade is limited solely by moderate marks on the portrait. Among collectible GSA Carson City issues, the 1879-CC and 1890-CC are the two rarest. But between those two issues, the 1879-CC is more elusive outside of a GSA holder. No box or certificate is included. GSA Population: 11 in 64 (5 in 64+), 4 finer (10/16).
Ex: New York Signature (Heritage, 10/2014), lot 4842.
