1889-CC $1 AU58 PCGS. The scarcity of Uncirculated examples suggests most 1889-CC coins were pulled from circulation, or from bags of circulated coins that were distributed to Federal Reserve Banks and their branches. Fewer than 700 Uncirculated coins have been certified in MS60 or finer by both services combined, suggesting the main sources of Mint State coins were souvenirs from initial circulation, coins selected from the annual pyx, and from mail requests from collectors received by the Carson City Mint.
This near-Mint example could easily pass for full Mint State. The frosty surfaces show virtually no rub, and only faint chatter affects the largely brilliant and lustrous surfaces. Wisps of golden-gray toning make only a fleeting appearance, and few marks are seen on the high points of the well-struck devices.
