1894-O $1 MS64+ PCGS. CAC. Ex: Vanderbilt/Sunnywood. The 1894-O is far more elusive in high grade than its mintage of more than 1.7 million pieces would suggest. Choice examples typically are the finest obtainable by collectors, as Gems are major rarities in the context of the series. This Plus-designated near-Gem offers a balance of quality and affordability and couples it with glistening, frosty mint luster and delightful original toning. Lavender-gray and dusky orange interiors cede to bright sea-green and yellow-gold peripheral toning. Minor weakness on eagle's breast and above Liberty's ear is typical of this New Orleans issue. A few faint luster grazes are hidden beneath the toning. PCGS reports only 13 finer representatives, none better than MS65+ (10/16).
