Morgan Dollars
1902-O $1 MS67 PCGS. CAC. Like the 1904-O, significant quantities of the 1902-O Morgan dollar went into long-term storage at the Philadelphia Mint, with some being paid out in bags over a long period of time. In the 1960s Treasury release, this New Orleans issue was dispersed in large quantities to collectors and dealers. Today, Gem and Premium Gem examples are available, but surprisingly few MS67 pieces are known.
This radiantly lustrous, CAC-endorsed Superb Gem is tied for the finest certified by either PCGS or NGC. The remarkably well-preserved surfaces are unhindered by toning and yield an intense cartwheel effect. The 1902-O is famously a poorly struck issue, although the present example shows only trivial weakness on the eagle's breast. By far one of the most attractive 1902-O dollars known, a rich reward for the patient and discerning collector. Population: 24 in 67, 0 finer. CAC: 9 in 67, 0 finer (10/16).
