Proof Morgan Dollars
1892 $1 PR68 NGC. Orders for proof sets were unusually heavy in 1892, probably because of the novelty value of the Barber design, which was introduced on the smaller silver denominations that year. A generous mintage of 1,245 proof Morgan dollars resulted as a by-product of this increased demand for the smaller coins. Accordingly, the 1892 is one of the more available proofs of this era, but few survivors can match the quality and eye appeal of the present coin. This magnificent PR68 specimen offers razor-sharp definition on all design elements and the fields are deeply mirrored, under pleasing shades of lavender-gray toning. The surfaces are impeccably preserved and overall eye appeal is tremendous. Census: 7 in 68 (2 in 68★), 0 finer (11/16).
