Peace Dollars
1925-S $1 MS65 NGC. A satiny Gem with highly lustrous silver surfaces that are splashed with pale orange and gold toning on each side. This date is quite common in lower Mint State grades but a rarity in Gem condition, with only a single finer example certified (10/16). Evidence remains of semiprooflike fields, especially on the reverse, although the appearance is different from the usual mirrored surfaces seen on prooflike Morgan dollars. Heavy die polishing lines provide the reflective sheen on this Gem, most noticeable on the reverse. The strike is sharp, and there are no bothersome abrasions. Census: 68 in 65 (2 in 65+), 1 finer (10/16).
Ex: Central States Signature (Heritage, 5/2007), lot 2194.
