1911-D $2 1/2 MS64 PCGS. CAC. Strong D. The 1911-D two and a half is the biggest challenge of the series to acquire in high grade, surviving in numbers far lower than the inflated certified population reports would suggest. We rarely offer a Gem-quality example, and Choice coins are only infrequently presented. This CAC example represents an elusive high-end example among certified near-Gems. The strike is sharp, and the mintmark is clear. Both sides display the typical satin luster but with a soft orange-gold hue. Only a few light marks determine the grade. PCGS has seen only 26 numerically finer submissions. CAC: 77 in 64, 9 finer (11/16).
