Early Half Eagles
1807 $5 Bust Right, BD-2, R.5, AU58 PCGS. A middle die state with a light crack through the tops of UNITED but no evidence of clash marks. A faint die crack traverses rim to rim over the E in LIBERTY; this crack becomes a full-fledged cud in a later die state. This is a beautiful Borderline Uncirculated Bust Right half eagle from the final year of the type. The surfaces are mildly prooflike and the reverse periphery displays light orange toning. Evenly struck and void of visible marks. A lens can locate only faint hairlines. BD-5 is a very scarce die pairing, and one of three with its size combination of the stars and date. However, all eight 1807 five dollar varieties can eventually be acquired by the persistent collector, and would make an impressive and varied display.
