Indian Half Eagles
1929 $5 MS62 PCGS. No half eagles were struck between 1916 and 1929, but the Philadelphia Mint produced a substantial total of 662,000 coins in the later year. Unfortunately, the effects of the Great Depression were beginning to be felt and there was little need for the coins in the shrinking economy. Most of the mintage was held in government storage and later destroyed after 1933. No half eagles were struck in later years and the 1929 is a key date in the series today.
This attractive MS62 specimen exhibits well-detailed design elements, with just a touch of the typical softness on the lower headdress feathers. The pleasing greenish-gold surfaces display radiant mint luster and show the minimum number of minor contact marks for the grade. Overall eye appeal is quite strong.
