Early Eagles
1795 $10 13 Leaves, BD-1, High R.3 -- Rim Damage -- PCGS Genuine. The PCGS number ending in .98 suggests Damage as the reason, or perhaps one of the reasons, that PCGS deemed this coin not gradable. In our opinion, this coin has the details of a Mint State specimen that has rim damage. Both sides exhibit brilliant and fully lustrous yellow-gold surfaces with small scrapes above ME of AMERICA that resulted in the Rim Damage description. Regardless, this is a highly attractive early eagle.
Bass-Dannreuther Die State c/b with a die crack through all stars on the left to the 179 of the date. The reverse has a faint crack from E to R, though the feather tips on the right, but shows none of the other die cracks of reverse state b. The first coinage of 1795 eagles occurred in September, with 1,097 pieces delivered on September 22. Additional deliveries took place in October and November 1795, and in January 1796.
