Liberty Eagles
1858 $10 MS60 NGC. The 1858 is a classic rarity within the Liberty eagle series. Just 2,521 examples were coined, the 15th lowest mintage for the entire design from 1838 to 1907, and the fifth lowest among No Motto issues. Mint State representatives are condition rarities of the highest order. The Condition Census consists of two MS60 coins (one here offered) and an MS61 at NGC, with a lone MS64 at PCGS (11/16). Only 50 to 65 pieces are believed extant in all grades.
This is a pleasing example with light yellow surfaces and slightly reflective fields. Both sides have light to moderate abrasions that are consistent with the grade. A few small marks along the edge of Liberty's neck, and a few others scattered about the fields on both sides should prove to be adequate pedigree identifiers.
