Liberty Eagles
1901 $10 MS67 NGC. Although moderately available in Gem condition or finer, the 1901 Liberty ten is an unsung rarity in Superb Gem condition, where it represents the pinnacle of condition rarity for an advanced date or type collection. Our archives show only three appearances of the 1901 in MS67 condition (and, of course, none finer) -- one in 2005, another in 2008, and the most recent appearance in 2009.
This example displays billowy mint frost and exceptionally vibrant mint luster. Eye appeal alone would demand a Superb Gem grade, yet the strike is equally impressive. Liberty's portrait is smooth and appealing, while the eagle is razor-sharp. The sumptuous orange-gold color is in part due to copper alloy that encourages the pleasing orange accents. No pieces are finer at either service. Census: 7 in 67, 0 finer (10/16).
