Liberty Double Eagles
1852-O $20 AU58 PCGS. Variety 1. From a mintage of 190,000 pieces, the 1852-O Liberty double eagle is one of the more available issues in this branch mint series, with a surviving population of 900-1,100 pieces in all grades. However, like most Type One twenties, the 1852-O is still elusive, especially in the high About Uncirculated and full Mint State grades.
This sharply detailed example exhibits lightly marked orange-gold, surfaces that retain a degree of semireflectivity and much of their original mint luster. A few hair-thin lines and pinscratches are noted, particularly above the second A in AMERICA. Nice eye appeal remains, and overall the coin is less-abraded than most survivors of this O-Mint issue. Population: 40 in 58 (1 in 58+), 17 finer (10/16).
