Liberty Double Eagles
1857-S $20 MS66 PCGS. Variety 20A. Ex: S.S. Central America. Spiked Shield. Two diagonal die lines cross the left shield border on the reverse. Prior to the discovery of the S.S. Central America treasure, high grade Type One Liberty double eagles were extremely rare. However, among nearly 6,000 1857-S twenties were almost 200 that graded finer than MS65. Type collectors avidly pursue those coins today. This frosty Premium Gem has brilliant yellow luster and bold design motifs, with splashes of rich coppery-orange toning on both sides. The surfaces are virtually flawless. Only a single small mark on Liberty's cheek prevents a higher grade.
