Liberty Double Eagles
1864-S $20 MS62 NGC. Ex: S.S. Republic. Aside from the pedigree on the original NGC holder, this amazing Type One double eagle could almost certainly be attributed to the Republic based solely on its coruscating mint frost and rose-gold coloration. Doug Winter writes: "The S.S. Republic examples of this date tend to have a much different appearance than the coins from the S.S. Brother Jonathan. The former tend to have more vivid luster while the latter are more subdued and a bit more matte-like." Full centers appear on the stars, and the eagle is well-defined. Small marks in the fields are minimal. Outstanding eye appeal. Census: 12 in 62, 5 finer (10/16).
