1870-S $20 MS62 PCGS. CAC. The Saddle Ridge Hoard of 2013 yielded three 1870-S double eagles in MS62, significantly altering the population of top-graded representatives. PCGS now shows 12 submissions in this grade and a single coin finer (11/16). Those numbers speak to the conditional rarity of the 1870-S, which boasts an unassuming mintage of 982,000 coins. This marvelous, original example showcases pale rose and green-gold hues amid swirling mint frost, all of which account for the spectacular visual appeal.
