Liberty Double Eagles
1875-CC $20 MS62 PCGS. Variety 2-B. Diagnostic indicators include the point of the 5 centered under the base of the curl, and the right edge of the second C aligned with left edge of the T. Despite a lower mintage than other Type Two double eagles struck at the Carson City Mint, the 1875-CC is the only collectible issue in this grade. Rusty Goe estimates the survival rate for the 1875-CC is 30% to 40% higher than its contemporaries. Nevertheless, Uncirculated examples, especially those as fine as this thickly frosted MS62 representative, are very scarce. Glimpses of rose and green color complement peach-gold surfaces. The caliber of production was exceedingly high for the 1875-CC, as evidenced by the strongly defined motifs on each side. Superficial field marks limit the grade.
