Liberty Double Eagles
1875-CC $20 MS62 NGC. Variety 1-B. Uncirculated Carson City double eagles with original color and minimally abraded surfaces always bring strong bids, and this lustrous, orange-gold example will surely do the same. Frosty mint luster illuminates deep-orange and lilac overtones while the sharply struck devices are free of any significant marks. As the most available CC-Mint twenty from the 1870s, the 1875-CC is a natural candidate for anyone needing a Type Two example from the old West Mint.
The issue becomes scarce in MS62 and it is rare any finer. No more than 10% of the survivors are estimated to exist in any Uncirculated condition -- with far fewer than that approaching the Select level.
