Liberty Double Eagles
1876-CC $20 MS60 PCGS. Variety 2-A. 1876-CC double eagles usually provide a good balance of availability and quality -- 138,441 pieces were struck, and the issue is generally well-produced and attractive. This MS60 example offers a discernible step up from a high-end About Uncirculated coin, which is not always the case. Full luster shines across semiprooflike surfaces that show a minimal amount of field chatter for the grade, but no visible rub.
The strike is sharp throughout. Original bright, medium-gold surfaces display brief orange overtones and a sparse speckling of "dirty gold" toning that confirms the natural coloration. The eye appeal is far above average for the grade and for an affordable Mint State Carson City twenty.
