Liberty Double Eagles
1892 $20 MS63 PCGS. Though not so great a rarity as famous earlier dates such as the 1882 or 1885, the 1892 double eagle is decidedly low-mintage, with just 4,430 pieces coined for circulation and few of them saved. The date is scarce in any Uncirculated grade, and Select or finer representatives are extremely rare. This Select representative is sure to be a highlight of the winning bidder's cabinet or showcase. Rich yellow-orange luster rolls off smooth surfaces in shimmering cartwheels, backed up by glints of reflectivity. Sharply struck and instantly memorable, this is a captivating example of a long-underrated issue increasingly receiving its due. Population: 5 in 63 (1 in 63+), 3 finer (10/16).
Ex: ANA Signature (Heritage, 3/2010), lot 2672.
