Coins of Hawaii
1883 10C Hawaii Ten Cents PR63 PCGS. Although just 26 proof Hawaiian dimes were struck at the Philadelphia Mint, the small production occurred over a two-year period. Six pieces were struck in September 1883. The following year, another 20 proofs were coined. Although there were also 250,000 business strikes at the San Francisco Mint, the proof keneta, or Hawaiian dime, is a formidable rarity, especially given its status as a single-year type. The present specimen is pearl-gray save for a blush of powder-blue near the date. The strike is needle-sharp. Both sides display minor hairlines but contact marks are absent. Population: 5 in 63, 7 finer (11/16).
