1870 50C Standard Silver Half Dollar, Judd-929, Pollock-1048, R.7, PR66 Red Cameo PCGS. CAC. Ex: Denali Collection. Liberty is seated facing left, and supports a shield inscribed LIBERTY with her right hand. Her left hand holds an olive sprig. A Liberty pole rises from behind her arm. The Standard Silver reverse leaves room for the date below the denomination, however, the date is instead on the obverse exergue. An unusual design pairing that lacks both UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and IN GOD WE TRUST. LIBERTY has raised letters. Previously it was believed there was a variant with incuse lettering, but this has been debunked and it is now known all examples have raised lettering. Judd-929a is delisted in Judd 10th edition and at uspatterns.com. Struck in copper with a reeded edge. An elegant example of this extremely rare pattern with even deep red color that is several shades lighter in the center of the reverse. Carefully preserved and outstanding. CAC has endorsed three examples of Judd-929, with the present piece as the single finest (11/16).
