Commemorative Silver
Fraser Oregon Trail Memorial Plaque. 16 inches. 10.5 pounds. Copper. This large and heavy circular plaque emulates the reverse of the Oregon Trail half dollar commemorative, struck intermittently between 1926 and 1939. The date has been replaced by the names of the designers for the issue, the husband and wife team of James Earle and Laura Gardin Fraser, signed as J.E. AND L.G. FRASER SCULPTORS. The only other design change is the absence of the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. The reverse is blank aside from two loops on the upper back that support a steel suspension wire. A similar plaque is on the headstone for the grave of noted Oregon Trail fundraiser Ezra Meeker. No foundry indicated, but possibly Medallic Art Co. We auctioned a similar item as lot 4259 in our 2012 Philadelphia Signature, which realized $5,287.50.
